Manager update

Ambler provides the latest on the search for a new boss

Lions Chief Executive Andy Ambler says the process of appointing a successor to Steve Lomas is 'well underway'.

Neil Harris and Scott Fitzgerald took caretaker charge for Sunday's 0-0 with Doncaster and look set to oversee preparations for the New Year's Day game with Leicester City at The Den. And Ambler, speaking to Lions Player, says their abilities on a temporary basis provide the Board with the time they need find the correct person for the job.

"In Neil and Scott we have two wholehearted Millwall people who will take the club forward during the interim period," he said. "They've had long discussions with the players both collectively and individually and they are all right behind what Neil and Scott are doing.

"That gives the Board the time to make decisions on which is the right way forward. It's not an instant decision but there are different avenues open to us and we have applicants coming forward. What we would like to do is weigh all of those up over the next few days."

Chairman John Berylson is flying over towards the end of this week and will sit down for talks with Andy and members of the Board.

"The Chairman had already planned to come across for the Southend game but we didn't foresee having to take the steps that we took after the Watford game. We can look forward to having face-to-face discussions on the best way to take things going forward.

"Instinct says you need to do it as soon as possible with January and the window soon upon us, but reality says you need to look at who applies and see which names are in the frame. You never know what is going to come around the corner because you can get one phone call that changes the way you're thinking."
