Defensive boost

31 December 2013

Shittu back ahead of Foxes test

Danny Shittu is available for selection for the New Year's Day meeting with table-toppers Leicester City at The Den (3pm).

Shittu was forced to sit out Sunday's 0-0 draw with Doncaster - Neil Harris and Scott Fitzgerald's first game in caretaker charge of The Lions - through suspension following his straight red card in the defeat at Watford, but is available to the duo once again.

Central defensive pairing Mark Beevers and Shane Lowry helped the side to keep a clean sheet at the Keepmoat Stadium but Shittu's return allows Chopper and Fitz the chance to reshuffle defensively against Nigel Pearson's in-form Foxes.

For Leicester, striker Jamie Vardy, who grabbed a brace when the two sides last met earlier this season, is suspended after he picked up his fifth booking of the campaign in Sunday's 5-3 win over Bolton at the King Power Stadium. That may mean a recall for Martyn Waghorn, who scored three goals in 14 appearances on loan at Millwall before returning to Leicester in December, although Gary Taylor-Fletcher is also pushing for a starting berth up front.

Two more former Lions in Chris Wood and Sean St. Ledger will miss out with hamstring and groin injuries respectively.

Ahead of the game, The Den will welcome Leicester fan Richard Page who will complete the latest leg of his charity cycle ride before kick-off.

Richard set up the 'Text Ellis' campaign when his son Ellis was diagnosed with the rare chromosome disorder MECP2 Duplication Syndrome, and this season he has been cycling to every Leicester away game in an attempt to raise £100,000.
