Full-time from The Den
Liam Trotter marked his return to competitive action with a superb 20-yard curling effort to help Millwall on their way to a 2-1 win against Swansea City at The Den on Friday afternoon.
Trotter (26mins) was joined on the score-sheet by Charlie Penny (45mins) to put The Lions 2-0 ahead at the break, and although Rory Donnelly (63mins) reduced the arrears for the visitors Millwall were good value to maintain their 100 per cent winning start to the U21 Professional Development League 2 campaign.
The young Lions had already hit the woodwork three times by the time Trotter curled his sublime 26th-minute opener, with striker Alfie Pavey striking the post twice and Aiden O'Brien smacking the bar with a looping header from a Josh Wright corner.
Charlie Penny had the ball in the net just after Trotter's strike, but his effort was disallowed for a marginal offside decision. However, he was not to be denied as he latched onto a Pavey through ball on the stroke of half-time to make it 2-0.
Neil Harris' side were so dominant in the first half that they might have been four or five up at the break. Both Pavey and Trotter might have scored again in injury time.
Midfielder Trotter was replaced on the hour mark having got some really good match minutes under his belt.
The Swans pulled a goal back just three minutes later when a long clearance by keeper Gregor Zabaret was picked up by Donnelly who cut inside of Will De Havilland before firing past Arron Lee-Barrett.
Fred Onyedinma, who had replaced Trotter in the centre of the park, combined superbly with Pavey to set up Penny on 65 minutes, but the latter saw his stinging shot blocked by Zabaret.
Millwall went close again with 14 minutes remaining when Karleigh Osborne's firm header from a Josh Wright corner was comfortably saved by the keeper with the last real chance of the game.
