Dear Millwall Football Club....

2 August 2013

'Thankyou for your steadfast and passionate support'

Dear Millwall Football Club, team and supporters,

On Wednesday Lewisham Hospital won a great victory in the High Court when the judge declared that Jeremy Hunt's decision to close the A+E and maternity departments was unlawful.
This victory was made possible by the massive campaign involving people from all sectors of our community who have fought hard for the past 10 months to defend our hospital. Central to that campaign has been the support of Millwall Football Club, its players and supporters.
The Save Lewisham Hospital Campaign thanks Millwall Football Club, its team and all Millwall fans from the bottom of our hearts, for their steadfast and passionate support for our hospital. Millwall generously gave us £5,000 towards legal costs - support that was essential in enabling the Campaign to mount our legal challenge.
It was wonderful to see the team wearing Campaign shirts in their warm-ups and to have the Millwall mascot and bus supporting many campaign events, including our huge demonstration in January that saw 25,000 people take to the streets to show their determination to defend Lewisham Hospital.
There will be more events coming up that we hope Millwall will continue to support because, while we have won a great victory, the campaign will continue so we are ready to defend the Hospital again if need be.
Many many thanks to Millwall and let's raise a cheer for Lewisham Hospital and all those who have worked so hard to secure its future.
Dr Louise Irvine
Chair of the Save Lewisham Hospital Campaign
