Rest and recuperation

15 April 2013

Latest from Lions physio Bobby

The physical and emotional demands of playing at Wembley need to be quickly recovered from as we play tomorrow night against Watford.
The vast Wembley pitch, late kick-off time and even the occasion means the players bodies were fatigued to the maximum so recovery is even more important than usual.
The players have a framework of recovery strategies and they add in their own personal rituals.
Massages, Cool downs, stretching, contrast baths, compression garments along with a host of post match foods and drinks are the cornerstone of immediate after match recovery. We had a little extra help at Wembley because there is a warm/cool down room next to the changing room and also a regulated cold pool in the changing room itself.
Furthermore we were helped by a new British sports nutrition company called 'Nourish me now' who generously supplied us with their range of natural ingredient recovery drinks.
Regarding injuries picked up on the day we will assess the usual array of bumps and bruises today (Monday). This will leave only Paul Robinson in the treatment room and he is spending very little time there now as he is pain free at present so the majority of his working day is in the gym optimising his strength before his return to running.
He is looking very good and we are looking forward to him starting his running very soon.
