Millwall U21s 1 Barnet U21s 3

4 September 2012

Full-time score from The Den

Barnet came from behind at The Den on Tuesday afternoon to secure a 3-1 victory in the U21 Professional Development League 2.
John Marquis had given The Lions a first-half lead with a driven free-kick from the edge of the box only for George Sykes to level up soon after; The forward first to meet a rebound after Steve Mildenhall had saved a stinging shot superbly.
In hot conditions, Barnet came out in the second-half the much stronger side and made their superior play tell by going in front. Sykes was the one to do the damage again, the striker cooly finishing past Mildenhall in The Millwall goal after a neat cut-back.
Barnet's second sparked The Lions into life but Aiden O'Brien, Tobi Alabi, Charlie Penney and Dylan Richards all saw their efforts saved.
With the game petering out, the visitors made sure of all three points with a spectacular third. Winger Jamal Lowe stepped up to curl a fantastic free-kick past the helpless Mildenhall from 25-yards.
There was to be no reply from The Lions but there were plenty of positives to look upon. Lions skipper Paul Robinson played 90 minutes as he continues his quest for fitness, as did Tam Mkandawire, deployed at right-back, as his long-term injury troubles improve. Summer signing Danny Shittu also featured at centre-back and played the full game. Team: Mildenhall, Mkandawire, Richards, McManus, Robinson, Shittu, Alabi, Sammoutis, Marquis (Penney), O'Brien, Twum. Subs: De Havilland, Wellham, Newman, Orgegun.
