Ian undertakes Marathon challenge
Millwall supporter and MSC Committee member Ian Toal is running his first marathon this Sunday 30th September in Berlin. Ian has a good reason to run the Marathon and tells us why.
"I'm raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of my mother Linda who suddenly passed away from cancer just over three years ago aged just 57.
Needless to say she meant the world to me. All mum's do, don't they! She was a Millwall supporter from Bermondsey who attended games when she was younger but although she didn't attend any more once she had a family, she still look out for the scores and helped myself out in many tasks for the supporters club, like washing the supporter team's football kits and making Player of the Season vote collection boxes! All this was done to make my life easier. Those are just a couple of small examples of what she used to do for others.
I'm sure most of you have also had family or friends affected by this terrible disease. In fact more than a third of us will get cancer at some point of our lives.
The nurses at Macmillan do a great job in provided support to cancer sufferers and their families. If I can raise a good amount it will provide both a fitting tribute to my mother and at the same time help other people and their families through dark times.
I'm sure you are all inundated with sponsorship requests nowadays! But I hope some of you that know me can spare a little to ease the pain of someone else less fortunate with their health than us. Because of the reasons I'm running this marathon, completing it is very important to myself and if you can spare a little money to sponsor myself, no matter how small, I would really appreciate it and it will help provide me with the motivation to keep going when it starts to hurt in the latter stages of the race!
Thank you so much for your support, it means a lot."
