Learning curve steepens

30 October 2012

Cardiff City U21s 4 Millwall U21s 0

Cardiff City Development side eased to an emphatic 4-0 win over Millwall on Tuesday night at Cardiff City Stadium.
The star man on show was Etien Velikonja who gave the Bluebirds the lead just before half time after a fantastic darting run from on loan Fulham winger Kerim Frei.
After the break the home side really took the game to Millwall, with trialist Luke Coulson supplying the cross for Velikonja’s second of the game on 63 minutes with the Slovenian nodding home in style.
Nat Jarvis added a third for Cardiff again after some good work from Coulson, the defender playing the ball to the striker on the edge of the six yard box to stroke home his first goal of the season. Velikonja completed his hat-trick just a few moments later after a great cross from substitute Kevin Sainte-Luce.
Lions coach Scott Fitzgerald admitted: "It's proving a steep learning curve for our lads at the moment. While we fielded eight scholars, Cardiff had a far more experienced side, most of whom have first team experience. The same was the case in recent matches against Charlton and Bristol City. Our players are finding out the hard way the levels they will need to reach to make their way in the game at the next level."

Cardiff City: Lewis, Coulson, John, Ralls, Oshilaja, Nugent, Frei, Jarvis ( Darko, 73), Velikonja,  McPhail, Conway.
Millwall: Mildenhall, Newman (Fitzgerald 85), Goodman, De Havilland, Hunter (Oriogun 80), McManus (Penney 70), Shitta, Sammoutis, Richards, Wilkinson, O'Brien.
