Great working partnership
This summer Fisher FC set up youth teams at under seven, under eight and under eleven for young people in around the Bermondsey area who are coached and managed voluntarily by six members of staff from Millwall Community Scheme.
On Sunday the Fisher FC U11s team attended Millwall's game against Leeds United, and for most of the players it was their first taste of live professional football. Prior to the game the boys were joined by members of the 4th Regiment Royal Military Police in a guard of honour to welcome both teams to the field. At half-time the players took part in a small sided game on the pitch to get the feel of what it’s like to play in front of around 13,000 spectators.
The team were formed with only a handful of players having experience of playing for previous teams.
Team manager Richard White commented: "Across all three squads the emphasis is based on player development. We aim to support the young people by providing them a football education of playing in a variety of different positions and how to conduct themselves on and off the pitch.
Coming to Millwall today was another part of their education, and it was great for them to see their local professional club in action."
