Millwall's youngsters were taught a harsh lesson by a Welling side containing a number of Lions old boys on Tuesday night.
Joe Healy, a product of the Den youth system, put the home side ahead on the quarter hour before Louis Cumbers made it 2-0 five minutes later.
Welling added a third through Harry Baker just after half-time to wrap up the scoring against a lucklustre Lions side who rarely threatened on the night. Arguably the star of the show was John Marquis' former youth team strike partner Kiernan Hughes- Mason who was lively throughout.
It is very much a learning curve for Millwall's youngsters just now, and even with Steve Mildenhall, who had no chance with the goals, and Karleigh Osborne in the starting XI, they couldn't match the experience of the Kent outfit who narrowly missed out on promotion to the Blue Square (Conference) Premier division last season.
