Lionesses maintain 100% winning start
Millwall Lionesses continue their 100 per cent winning start to the new season with a 3-1 away win at Tottenham LFC.
Following on from their opening day victory against West Ham United, a brace from Emma Whitter coupled with another from Abigail Igbavoia secured a second successive win.
From the start this proved to be a very entertaining encounter.
Spurs had the first opportunity of the game, but Millwall keeper Frankie Gibbs dived to her left to make a smart save from Bianca Baptiste.
Millwall patiently worked to build up their play with a long shot from Shauni Griffiths going just a few inches wide. Tottenham looked dangerous from their set pieces but it was the Lionesses who took the lead when Ciara Sherwood put Whitter through and she found the bottom corner confidently.
Spurs continued to apply pressure with the long balls down the left flank and nearly grabbed an equaliser but a body block from Natalie Grafton stopped the ball going in.
Millwall doubled their tally courtesy of a fine individual effort by Igbavoia, who beat two defenders on the right flank before hitting a sweet strilke into the top corner.
The Lionesses started the second half two goals to the good and in total command and duly added a third following more good work from Igbavoia on the right to set up Whitter for her second goal of the game.
Spurs reduced the deficit on the hour mark when Chloe Burr slid the ball home after Gibbs could only parry Baptiste's shot.
This gave Tottenham renewed hope and they continued to press on but the Lionesses worked very hard not to concede another goal and left North London with another three points in the bag.
