Aiden O'Brien's 44th-minute header secured a 1-0 local derby win for Millwall's Under 23s over Crystal Palace in the Professional Development League on Tuesday afternoon at Calmont Road.
O'Brien, selected as an overage player alongside Jiri Skalak for the game, got on the end of a Tyler Burey cross just before the half-time break to keep up The Lions' challenge for a Play-Off spot at the end of the season.
Kevin Nugent fielded the usual suspects in Ryan Sandford, Harry Ransom, Junior Tiensia, Billy Mitchell and more as The Eagles travelled across South London, with the first-half devoid of clear-cut chances, mainly owing to extremely blustery conditions.
However, just a minute before the break, Burey's cross was met by O'Brien, who planted a header past Jacob Russell in the Palace net for the only goal of the game.
In a rare foray forward, The Eagles attempted to get back into the game through John-Kymani Gordon and Gio McGregor, whilst Skalak smacked the post in the second-half, but The Lions held on to their single-goal lead as heavy rain lashed down in the dying embers of the game.
Next up for Millwall's Under 23s is a trip to Ipswich Town on 2nd March.
