Preview | Huddersfield Town v Millwall

Lions on the road...

29 October 2021

Millwall travel to Huddersfield Town in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

The Lions made it back-to-back League wins with a 2-1 victory over Stoke City last Saturday, and now go in search of a fifth win in six matches as they make the journey to the John Smith's Stadium.

With one defeat in 10 to their name, Gary Rowett may opt to keep his starting XI for the fixture relatively the same, but one change will have to be made as George Evans misses out through injury - George Saville, who missed the meeting with The Potters last weekend through suspension, will be expected to come straight back into the side in his absence.

Benik Afobe, meanwhile, is available for selection after being unable to face Stoke due to the terms of his loan agreement, but Tom Bradshaw will hope to keep his place after his brace in SE16. Mason Bennett remains a doubt, whilst Connor Mahoney could come into the manager's thinking should he wish to change things up.

Saturday’s fixture will be used by Huddersfield Town to commemorate Remembrance Day. Click here for more information.

If you aren't one of several hundred Lions fans making the journey to Yorkshire, then full match commentary will be available on iFollow Millwall by purchasing an Audio Match Pass. International subscribers to iFollow, meanwhile, will be able to watch the action on the platform.

To pass the time until kick-off, you can listen to last weekend's match-winner Bradshaw here, whilst Part One of Wall Talk with club legend Neil Harris is available now, with Part Two coming on Friday afternoon!

Lions suffer single-goal defeat to Huddersfield

Our report from the John Smith's Stadium...

30 October 2021

Millwall were defeated 1-0 by Huddersfield Town in the Sky Bet Championship at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Jonathan Hogg headed a late winner as The Lions suffered just a second defeat in 11 matches.

Gary Rowett made one change from the side which defeated Stoke City last weekend - an enforced one - as George Saville, back from suspension, replaced the injured George Evans.

The attacking trio of Mason Bennett, Matt Smith and Benik Afobe, meanwhile, took their places on the bench.

The Lions started the brighter in Yorkshire and fashioned a couple of chances through Jed Wallace, but Terriers goalkeeper Lee Nicholls was equal to them.

Lewis O'Brien, the hosts' biggest threat in the opening 45 minutes, then struck for goal, before a fantastic chance fell the way of Danny Ward as he took Sorba Thomas' cross in his stride, but he managed to blaze over from the edge of the six-yard box.

From there, The Terriers gained control of the game and tried to find a route to goal through a number of players, including Danel Sinani, Ward and Duane Holmes, but a combination of wayward shooting and strong hands from Bartosz Bialkowski prevented the score from being opened.

Billy Mitchell won the ball back in midfield as The Lions looked to hit their opponents on the break just before the half-time whistle, but Scott Malone's cross was easily gathered by Nicholls, with the teams going in at the break goalless.

Three minutes into the second-half, Bialkowski had to be on his usual fine form to save brilliantly from Matty Pearson's low drive, before Jed Wallace and former Lion Harry Toffolo traded chances as the hour-mark came and went.

With 66 minutes on the clock, Tom Bradshaw raced towards goal, but with Pearson chasing, the defender was able to execute an excellent challenge to prevent the Millwall man from pulling the trigger.

There were eight minutes left to play, however, when the scoring was opened as Hogg was able to rise highest and head past Bialkowski to open the scoring and condemn The Lions to a loss on the road.
