Preview | Reading v Millwall

Lions head west...

5 March 2022

Millwall travel to Reading in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

The Lions head for the Select Car Leasing Stadium in good form, having won their last four matches, and will now face interim boss Paul Ince's Royals in an attempt to keep that run going.

Gary Rowett, however, will be without a plethora of players for the journey. Ryan Leonard, Tom Bradshaw, Sheyi Ojo, Oliver Burke, Luke Freeman and Maikel Kieftenbeld have now been joined by Shaun Hutchinson and Mason Bennett, who both had to withdraw during last Saturday's victory over Sheffield United at The Den. Benik Afobe and Daniel Ballard returned to the squad against The Blades, however, and could be named in the starting XI.

Millwall's allocation for this fixture has SOLD OUT, with no further tickets being made available for sale. If you are unable to make it across the M4, then full match commentary will be on iFollow Millwall. Click here for full details.

By way of pre-match entertainment, both Rowett and George Saville spoke to earlier this week, whilst CEO Steve Kavanagh also updated fans on a number of subjects - click here to read.

New Wall Talk episodes will be dropping soon, but for now, the last episode - with Marc Bircham - can be downloaded here!

Five Alive! Lions chalk up another success

Our report from Berkshire...

5 March 2022

Millwall chalked up a fifth consecutive Sky Bet Championship win on Saturday afternoon as Gary Rowett's side defeated Reading by one goal to nil.

Jake Cooper scored for a second consecutive game in the 38th minute to win the game for The Lions at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Rowett made two changes for the trip, both enforced, as Shaun Hutchinson and Mason Bennett missed out through injury. Daniel Ballard - for his start since November - and Benik Afobe replaced them, whilst Hayden Muller and Tyrese Briscoe stepped up to the substitute's bench.

The Lions started well and fashioned two free-kicks in the opening moments, but both efforts from Jed Wallace struck the wall and went over respectively.

Tom Ince - The Royals' most likely point of attack - tested Bartosz Bialkowski following that, with the forward then curling an effort into the stopper's hands as the midway point of the half came and went.

Millwall were keeping possession well but were yet to find a final ball that would unlock the Reading defence - Billy Mitchell's cross on 23 minutes was nodded on by George Saville and almost into the path of Cooper, but the back-line were able to scramble away.

However, with seven minutes to play until the half-time break, the opener came. Danny McNamara's long-range effort was tipped over spectacularly by Luke Southwood, but from the resulting corner-kick, Cooper was able to rise highest and head home to break the deadlock.

John Swift ballooned an effort over from inside the area as Reading looked to get back into the game at the end of the first-half, with Lucas Joao the next man to make attempts to breach the Millwall defence at the beginning of the second-half, but to no avail.

Saville had to hack the ball clear from safety on the hour-mark, before Scott Malone's effort was blocked at the other end in a period of few clear-cut chances. Reading substitute Ovie Ejaria and Swift failed to trouble Bialkowski late on, with The Lions claiming a fifth successive success not long after.
