Preview | Millwall v Reading

A look ahead to Tuesday's Sky Bet Championship meeting at The Den...

26 September 2017

Millwall and Reading meet for the 100th time on Tuesday night as the two clubs do battle in the Sky Bet Championship (kick-off 7.45pm).

The Lions are currently unbeaten in three League games following Saturday's goalless draw at Preston North End and will look to build on two consecutive clean sheets against The Royals.

To gain a third win in a row at The Den, Millwall will, however, have to break a 12-game run - stretching back to August 2004 - without a victory over Reading. On that occasion, Danny Dichio's 79th-minute strike secured all three points in a 1-0 success.

Lee Gregory serves the final match of his three-game suspension on Tuesday night, with Tom Elliott the only other absentee in the matchday squad.

Jed Wallace is the cover star on tonight's matchday programme, which is packed with its usual stats, facts and features. Buy yours around the ground for just £3.

There will be no Family Fun Zone prior to tonight's kick-off.

Saville double downs Reading

Our take on events at The Den...

26 September 2017

George Saville's late double extended Millwall's unbeaten run to four games and secured a third straight Sky Bet Championship home win on Tuesday night as The Lions defeated Reading 2-1.

David Edwards gave Reading the lead with on 73 minutes, but Saville - recently called into the Northern Ireland squad - showed his international class with a stunning late duo.

Lions boss Neil Harris kept the same starting XI for the third game running, with just one change on the substitutes' bench, as Ben Thompson replaced Mahlon Romeo.

The first 10 minutes of the match saw little in the way of goalmouth action, but Byron Webster's header from Shaun Williams' corner-kick registered as the first attempt of the night.

Provider nearly turned scorer on 17 minutes as Williams twisted and turned to fashion a chance on goal, but his effort was straight at Vito Mannone.

Jordan Archer was called into action for the first time with 24 minutes on the clock, as he palmed away Roy Beerens' curler. Reading had their second chance on the half-hour mark, as Gareth McCleary struck over the crossbar.

Chances in front of goal were few and far between, with Steve Morison striking wide 10 minutes before the half-time break.

Conor McLaughlin was handily-placed to block another Beerens attempt on 41 minutes, whilst in the final action of the half minutes later, Onyedinma failed to make a connection on the edge of the six-yard box from Jed Wallace's cross.

The second-half offered little until on 73 minutes when Reading took the lead, as Edwards powered a header past Archer.

Seven minutes later, however, The Lions were level as Saville rose superbly to head home Williams' corner-kick.

With five minutes to play, Millwall scored their second in some style. The ball broke to Saville on the edge of the penalty area and the midfielder unleashed a vicious hit into the bottom corner past Mannone for his fourth goal of the campaign.

Deep into stoppage-time, as Reading piled forward, The Lions threw their bodies on the line, with Archer expertly smothering Paul McShane as the defender shaped to shoot.

Reading were rightly denied a penalty-kick in the final moments, as Millwall held on for a third straight Sky Bet Championship home win.
