Preview | Millwall v Bristol City

A look ahead to Saturday's Den meeting...

7 April 2018

Millwall welcome Bristol City to The Den on Saturday afternoon for a Sky Bet Championship clash (kick-off 3pm).

The two teams enter the final six games of the regular season with identical records in the League table, with The Robins in front by virtue of goals scored.

Millwall, however, head into this weekend's encounter without defeat at home since 4th November and protecting a 14-match unbeaten run.

Boss Neil Harris has no fresh injury concerns following the Easter period, with Byron Webster still a long-term absentee and Ben Thompson doubtful.

Saturday's game will be the 94th between the two, with City slightly ahead historically. A goalless draw was fought out back in August at Ashton Gate, whilst Dany N'Guessan and Adam Smith were on target as The Lions won 2-1 on New Year's Day 2013 in the last meeting in SE16.

A large crowd is expected at The Den this weekend - the club advises buying/collecting tickets in advance to avoid lengthy queues building prior to kick-off. Click here to purchase.

The final Family Fun Zone of the weekend takes place in the Lions Centre this Saturday! Between 1-2pm, families from both Millwall and Bristol City supporters can enjoy FREE fun. Click here for more details.

The visit of The Robins also sees the club celebrate its annual Dockers Day, in which many members of the 2000/01 Second Division title-winning squad will make an appearance. Click here for more details.

If you are unable to make it to The Den this weekend, full match commentary will be available on iFollow Millwall from around 2.50pm. International subscribers can also watch the action from South London on iFollow. Click here to find out more.

Lions keep pressure on top six with victory over Bristol City

Our take from The Den...

7 April 2018

Jed Wallace and Steve Morison were on target as Millwall completed a crucial 2-0 win over Bristol City at The Den in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon.

In a game that saw the two teams begin with identical records and sitting just outside the top six, Wallace curled his seventh of the season home in the first half before Morison added the second - and his fourth of the campaign - in the second half.

The unbeaten run in the League now stands at 15 matches.

Boss Neil Harris once more kept his starting XI and substitutes the same.

The visitors applied early pressure but could only strike a free-kick against the wall through Joe Bryan, whilst at the other end, Morison's cross was punched away by Frank Fielding with Lee Gregory lurking.

Bristol City could have taken the lead on nine minutes but Shaun Hutchinson threw himself in the way of Marlon Pack's shot - and that paved the way for Wallace to open the scoring two minutes later, controlling Ben Marshall's pass before curling a Goal of the Month - and Season - contender into the top corner of the net.

From there the game became a midfield battle with chances at either end few and far between - that was until Shaun Williams tested Fielding with a long-range effort on 31 minutes. Wallace also let fly from around the same distance three minutes later, but his attempt was tame and easily claimed by the stopper.

The Robins looked to get on the scoresheet five minutes before the half-time break, but ex-Lions loanee Nathan Baker could only get his shot horribly wrong.

Wallace looked to curl another home at the beginning of the second-half but could only find the arms of Fielding. Bryan's free-kick bounced through a bundle of bodies and was nearly turned into the net by Eros Pisano, but fortunately the ball was just too long for the defender to reach.

On 52 minutes, The Lions doubled their lead. The ball was smartly played into the path of Morison who, after putting one City defender on his backside, calmly slotted into the net for his fourth goal of the campaign.

Wallace, Gregory and Morison all had close-range efforts soon after as Millwall looked for the killer third, but incredibly, somehow, a combination of Fielding and heroic Robins blocking prevented the ball from finding its way across the line.

Jake Cooper had to stand tall on 56 minutes as Pack looked to reduce the deficit, with City throwing caution to the wind more and more as the minutes ticked on; however, The Lions' defence was standing firm in search of another clean sheet.

With 78 minutes on the clock, Marshall's cross found Morison at the back post - the striker headed towards goal, but his attempt was blocked by Pack amidst a handball shout. Williams planted a free header wide from the resulting corner-kick.

Pack glanced Korey Smith's free-kick over the crossbar seven minutes from time, with The Lions holding firm to stretch their unbeaten run further.
