The left-sided player put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract at the end of that campaign and has since enjoyed two successful loan spells with Championship side Birmingham City, as well as a similar short-term stint at Rangers last season.
Ferguson, who was born in Derry, was capped by Northern Ireland at various youth levels before making his U21 debut against Scotland in November 2008. His senior bow came less than a year later, in June 2009, when he came on as a late substitute against Italy and he has featured regularly since, including his selection for Euro 2016.
