Lions stung by Bees

Posted on: Wed 03 Feb 2010

Millwall reserves played their first competitive game since the end of October at Griffin Park on Tuesday afternoon and are still looking for their first win after missing a host of chances against a strong Brentford side.
They were made to pay for their profligacy as Brentford ran out 3-1 winners, and afterwards coach Richard Shaw looked for the positives.
"Firstly credit to Brentford for getting the game on because I think both clubs needed it. Some of the lads had played very little football in the last three months and it showed.
It was good to see Pat O'Connor get 75 minutes under his belt for the first time this season, and he was up against Carl Cort which was a test for him. The same goes for Danny Senda, although he's out of contract with us now.
To be honest, the scoreline could have been 7-7 on a heavy pitch, and certainly after Ashley Grimes had equalised with a wonder strike both Lewis Grabban and Ali Fuseini had one on ones with the keeper to put us 2-1 up.
It was disappointing to concede two goals from headers from set pieces, but there were some plus points."
The Bees took the lead in the 7th minute when ex-Lion Mark Phillips headed home from a Sam Saunders corner. The Lions were back on level terms after 20 minutes through Ashley Grimes who found the top corner of the net from 22 yards out. But Brentford re-took the lead again seven minutes later when Carl Cort hit a drive high into the net.
The Bees extended their lead two minutes after the break when Cort stooped to head home from another Saunders' corner.
