Millwall reserves went down by a goal to nil in the first totesport.com combination fixture of the season after Shots striker John Grant capitalised on a slip by Omar Beckles to set up Danny Hylton who sidefooted home from eight yards on 27 minutes.
The home side had spurned two earlier chances to take the lead when Kiernan Hughes-Mason volleyed wide after being set up by John Marquis, and then Marquis again provided the assist on 17 minutes with Lewis Grabban this time just off target.
Marquis himself came close to netting the equaliser just past the half hour when he rounded keeper Clark Masters only to see his shot cleared off the line by Ben Hutchings.
There was a let off on the stroke of half-time when the lively Grant volleyed just over after a neat turn in the box.
Grabban tested Masters seven minutes after the break with a snap-shot that the keeper dealt with comfortably.
Then on the hour Lewis had another effort deflected for a corner.Millwall continued to press forward and Hassan Janneh hit a 25-yarder just over.Aldershot were still a threat as Grant saw a header cleared off the line and Bobby Hopkinson went close from distance. The same player then brought a flying save out of Lions keeper John Sullivan.
Hughes-Mason should have levelled the scores 15 minutes from time after being put clear by Marquis but he rolled his shot inches wide of the target.
