Gary was snapped up by Millwall on 1st July 2007 from Leyton Orient after finishing as the O's top scorer for the third time in 2006/7 to further cement his reputation. A powerful and hard-working forward with a clinical finish, Gary signed for the O's in January 2003, and went on to hit 16 goals in his first full season at Brisbane Road.
Although an ankle injury meant he spent much of the following campaign on the treatment table, he still made it into double figures. An impressive start to the 2005/6 season, which included an incredible run of scoring in nine consecutive games, led to the south London-born hitman winning the Powerade League Two Player of the Month award in September, and his 15 goals overall played a major part in helping The O's towards promotion.
A product of West Ham United's youth system, Gary spent the 1999/2000 season on loan at Exeter City where he made a tremendous impact, scoring 19 times. Ironically, then Orient boss Tommy Taylor tried to sign him that summer, but Swindon Town paid the Hammers £200,000 for his services and he went west in August 2000.
The following summer he was on the move again as Hull City splashed out £160,000 on him and he joined the Tigers in June 2001. Gary fell out of favour with Peter Taylor though and he joined Orient in January 2003 on a contract which was extended until the end of the 2006/7 season, when Willie Donachie swooped to bring him to The Den.
Amazingly Gary failed to find the net once before Christmas 2007 but remained a fans' favourite due to his endeavour and commitment. The drought ended with a hat-trick against Brighton on Boxing Day, and within a month he had scored a total of seven. Unfortunately, an ankle injury sustained at Yeovil saw him miss vital games towards the end of the season.
He duly bounced back with 15 goals, topping the Millwall scoring charts, during 2008/9, and scored both Lions goals at Wembley including a 35-yard stunner.
The 2009/10 campaign proved to be one of major frustration for Gary, blighted by injury that restricted him to just 11 starts.
Strong in the air and he has now rattled up over 100 goals over the course of his career.
