Defender Robbo made his senior debut against Cambridge United in the Third Round of the FA Cup in January 2003, coming on after five minutes for an injured Stuart Nethercott. The following week Paul made his first start and League debut against Watford at The Den and scored his first goal for the club in a replay against Cambridge three days later.
Paul had to wait for his opportunity for first team football, having worked his way through the Academy and Reserve sides. In the absence of Nethercott, Joe Dolan and Mark Phillips, he grabbed his opportunity with both hands and was one of the outstanding performers in the 2002/03 season. He continued his excellent form the following campaign until damaging his cruciate knee ligaments at Norwich City on 8th November.
Having made a full recovery, Paul has now re-established himself as a vital member of the first-team and was a regular in the side during the last two seasons, during which he has also taken over as team captain.
