Football pundit Chris Kamara has urged Lions fans to pack their rucksacks and join him on 'the trek of a lifetime' next June.
Chris, who was last week confirmed as Ambassador for Marie Curie Cancer Care, told www.millwallfc.co.uk "It would be absolutely brilliant if any Millwall fans out there would come and join me on the trek.
I've done a lot of work for Marie Curie over the years; they looked after my late mother so well and it's only right to try and support the absolutely fantastic work they do as best I can.
When I got a call asking if I would be interested in becoming the official Football League Ambassador for the charity there was no way I was going to say 'no'.
They told me they were planning a few events - such as a bike ride from Lands End to John O'Groats and a couple of climbs including the trek up Mount Kilimanjaro, and no pressure or anything, but would I be interested? I couldn't exactly say no now, could I?!
I've never done anything like this before in terms of climbing. The extent of physically getting involved with charity stuff from my part up until now is holding an annual Golf Week in Tenerife, although I have also run the London Marathon and Great North Run etc for Marie Curie before. Nothing as daunting as this though - this is going to be the trek of a lifetime!
Ben Shepherd, who I work with on Goals on Sunday, has done this trek before so I've already asked for some advice from him. He suggested not to do anything special in terms of training. I'm reasonably fit anyway and still play football once a week, and I'm going to continue what I'm doing and enjoying myself until about a week before hand. Then I'll stop the beer - just for the week! - although may pack a can to celebrate when I get to the top of Kilimanjaro!
I've already had people such as as Ricky Hatton and the Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson expressing an interest in joining me, but I can't stress enough that it would be fantastic to get some Lions fans coming along too.
Millwall as a club, and the fans, have really got behind charities before - and the support that's been given for the Neil Harris Everyman Appeal and Help For Heroes last year, has been great.
This trek is to try and raise £500,000 for Marie Curie. It's a huge amount of money, and a huge challenge, but the more Millwall fans that can join in the better."
