Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard has pipped Gary Alexander to the Mitre 2009 Goal of the Year Award at the annual Football League Dinner held at London's Grosvenor Hotel on Sunday night.
The former Crewe frontman, who actually made his professional debut for the Railwaymen against Millwall in our final Championship game of the 2005/6 season, narrowly beat Swindon's Simon Cox (by one per cent) and Gary to the coverted trophy for his effort in a league defeat at QPR on Boxing Day.
The gala dinner, attended by around 900 club managers, directors, staff members and sponsors, also saw Leeds Jermaine Beckford named the Four Four Two Player of the Year for League One ahead of Wes Hoolahan and Rickie Lambert.
