Winning start
Richard Shaw took a strong reserve side to Aldershot for the first Pontins Holidays Combination fixture of the season and his charges got their campaign off to a positive start with a 4-2 success over the Football League new boys.
The home side also featured six first teamers including player/coach Ricky Newman who is no stranger to Shaw or Lions fans, and it was The Shots who took the lead in the first minute through a Danny Hylton volley.
Millwall levelled 10 minutes later when Gary Alexander latched onto a through ball from Ryan Smith and rounded the keeper before sidefooting home.
Smith then tested Jaimez-Raiz in the Aldershot goal with a raking 30 yarder before the teams went in level at the break.
Millwall were in front for the first time three minutes after half time when Smith again set up Alexander to score, and the big striker turned provider on the hour, squaring the ball for Ashley Grimes to make it 3-1.
Shots reduced the arrears four minutes from time when Elvins scored from the spot after being upended by Pat O'Connor, but sub Gary Bowes restored the two goal advantage following good work from Alexander and Grimes.
Of further encouragement to Lions boss Kenny Jackett was the fact that Marcus Bignot played a full 90 minutes as did Ryan Smith with both Dave Brammer and Adrian Forbes putting in effective displays before being substituted in the second half.
