Lions boss Kenny Jackett has been in the game far too long to press the panic button after losing the opening two games of the season, but he knows that a good result against Southend on Saturday is vitally important if Millwall are to maintain that pre-season optimism.
He said: "There have been positive signs in those first two games which show me that we will have a good season in spite of those results, but it's winning games that breeds confidence in players and supporters, and I'm under no illusions that we have to find that winning formula on Saturday.
Last weekend we got ourselves into a good position by playing some excellent football, but then after Paul Robinson's dismissal failed to see the game out. Then on Tuesday night we started very poorly and although we improved significantly after half-time we have to be much more positive right from the off against Southend."
Kenny's opposite number Steve Tilson believes a draw would be a good result for his side who also lost 1-0 at home in the Carling Cup in midweek.
"I think a point would be OK for us, and if we can do better than that it would be great," he explained.
"I think Millwall will be under a little bit of pressure after two defeats, but it's very early days, and things don't really start to take shape until after about 10 games.
Extra-time on Tuesday didn't do us any favours this early in the season, and losing Nicky Bailey hasn't helped us with a squad of our size. But we'll find someone who wants to play for the club to replace him."
