Paul Robinson scored his first League goal for Millwall - but Rob Hulse denied The Lions a deserved victory with a late leveller for Leeds.
Defender Robbo was recalled from a loan spell at Torquay United to bolster the depleted Den ranks. And he wasted no time making his mark in his first Championship start of the campaign, firing home a 17th-minute opener after Mark Quigley diverted Peter Sweeney's corner into his path.
In an entertaining game Leeds' striker Hulse smashed home his fourth goal in four games since joining on loan from West Brom with a neat shot on the turn to secure a share of the spoils.
It was a bitter pill for the young Lions to swallow following a hugely encouraging show from Dennis Wise's young charges.
A poor run of results coupled with some below-par displays heightened the need for a good performance - and that's exactly what Wisey's side served up with an energetic and enthusiastic effort worthy of all three points.
Millwall set their stall out from the opening whistle and there were just 58 seconds on the clock when Sweeney's cross found Josh Simpson, but he headed straight at Neil Sullivan.
At the other end Andy Marshall's athleticism saved Darren Ward's blushes when he dived at full stretch to keep out his own defender's powerful header from Aaron Lennon's cross.
Danny Dichio tested Sullivan again with a deft flicked effort following good interplay by Craig and Quigley, whilst Sweeney's free-kick somehow evaded a host of hovering Millwall players who were unable to get a final touch.
The Lions' impressive early play was rewarded on 17 minutes courtesy of Robins' right foot shot, and the home side should have been handed an opportunity to double their tally just two minutes later when Marvin Elliott was hauled down by Sean Gregan for a clear penalty two minutes later. Unfortunately referee Barry Knight failed to see the foul and waved play on.
Quigley fired wide and Dichio again brought the best out of Sullivan as The Lions finished the half as they had started it - in the ascendency.
Leeds started the second half with more verve and vigour about their play, and it took a fine fingertip save by Marshall to keep out Gary Kelly's fierce drive.
Simpson wasted a glorious chance to increase the home side's lead on 51 minutes. Robinson hit a long free-kick, Dichio flicked on to the young Canadian, but he glanced his header no more than a foot wide from just six yards out.
Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell introduced striker Marlon King with an hour on the clock, although it did little to stem Millwall's attacking tide and the impressive Elliott went close to scoring his first senior goal with a powerful first-time shot narrowly off-target.
Player-manager Wise was again left shaking his head in despair after 64 minutes when a second cast-iron penalty was missed by the officials - this time when Simpson was sent sprawling as he shaped up to shoot.
Dichio and Quigley again went close, but it was during Leeds' first - and only - sustained period of pressure that they grabbed a leveller courtesy of Hulse's sharp shot on the turn.
Wise brought on Curtis Weston for Sweeney, who was clearly struggling with a back injury, and then Bob Peeters for the tiring Quigley.
But Blackwell countered by bringing on burly defender Clarke Carlisle to man-mark Millwall'sbig Belgian striker, and although Peeters won two headers, his introduction was too late to make any significant impact.
