Watford 2 Millwall Lionesses 0

Millwall Lionesses slipped to a fourth successive defeat when goals from Kate Longhurst and Bonnie Horwood sealed victory for Watford in a scrappy encounter at Northwood FC on Thursday night.
Playing their fourth match in 10 days Lionesses manager Aidan Boxall made changes to his side with young prospect Jordan Butler making her first start since stepping up from the Centre of Excellence. After shaking off an injury Angela Kiobel retained her spot in the side from Leah Jones, who in turn dropped down to the bench.
It took barely 60 seconds for the home side to break the deadlock courtesy of Longhurst 's stunning curled effort.
The remainder of the first half was an even
, but largely uneventful affair with both teams sharing periods of possession, but failing to create many chances.
Charlotte Gurr
had Millwall's only clear opportunity, volleying a cross from Ann-Marie Heatherson straight into the hands of Watford keeper Marie Hourihan.
T
he second period was more exciting and Millwall came close to equalizing when a goal line scramble was nearly bundled over the line by Dionne Lennon
Heatherson also tested Hourihan
's resolve with an effort from distance, but it wasn't to be Millwalls night.
With 20 minutes remaining boss Boxall replaced Charlotte Gurr and Emma Beckett with Sinead McSharry and
Jones in a bid to salvage an equaliser.
With The Lionesses pushing forward there was always a danger that they would be caught on the counter-attack - and that's exactly what happened when Kimberley Dixson flicked a header passed Claire Lacey only for the goal to be disallowed for offside.
However Watford doubled finally grabbed a second goal on 76 minutes when Bonnie Horwood scored direct
from an in swinging corner to put the game firmly out of Millwall's reach.
The Lionesses are back in action when they face Sunderland Ladies FC this Sunday, 25th October at Beckenham Town FC's Eden Park as they look to maintain their top position in the FA Women's Premier League.
