Five alive
Millwall Lionesses 0 Everton LFC 5
Millwall Lionesses slipped to their third successive defeat when a hat-trick from Natasha Dowie sunk Aidan Boxall's side at a rain-drenched Eden Park Avenue on Sunday.
Playing their third match in seven days Lionesses manager Boxall started with the same side that finished the midweek encounter against Chelsea, with Leah Jones retaining her spot in the side at the expense of Angela Kiobel, who dropped to the bench.
Having played a midweek Champions League match themselves, Everton wasted no time in producing a master class to teach the young Lionesses a harsh lesson.
Dowie lead from the front for the visitors and showed her intent early on when she flashed a low ball across the six-yard box.
Shortly after Carly Eagles was penalised for a foul on Jill Scott, with captain and England international Fara Williams denied a spectacular opening goal thanks to the quick reactions of keeper Claire Lacey, who plucked the long-range effort from just under the bar.
Everton's pressure finally paidd off on 13 minutes when Jodie Handley beat Meghan McKeag on the flank and whipped a ball into the box that Dowie poked home at the near post.
Some smart play between the dangerous Dowie and Under 19 international Toni Duggan ended with the latter's shot smothered by Lacey.
Everton continued to bombard the home goal and it took some great defensive work by Sinead Boyer and then Dionne Lennon to avert the danger from a Jodi Handely corner.
The Toffees went close again midway through the half when Duggan and Dowie both shot wide whilst Williams' 20-yard piledriver smacked the underside of the bar before Sarah Jones was able to clear.
Millwall found themselves 2-0 behind seconds before the break courtesy of Dowie's neat headed finish from Jodi Handley's cross.
The Lionesses were caught napping deep in first-half injury time when Handley slammed home from close range after Lacey had parried Dowie's initial effort.
Any chance Millwall had of working their way back into this game all but disappeared within three minutes of the restart when Dowie connected with a Williams free-kick and flicked the ball in at the far post to complete her hat-trick.
Everton added goal number five just past the hour-mark. Toni Duggan capitalised on another defensive mistake and sent a curling effort beyond the reach of keeper Lacey.
With 25 minutes remaining boss Boxall introduced Kiobel and Jordan Butler for her first team debut after progressing through the Millwall Lionesses' Centre of Excellence.
The Lionesses are back in action on Thursday night when they face Watford LFC at Northwood FC.
