Chelsea LFC 3-1 Millwall Lionesses

Millwall Lionesses were defeated 3-1 in a rain drenched encounter to Chelsea Ladies at Met Police FC on Wednesday night. Goals from Claire Rafferty, Dunia Susi and Lianne Sanderson cancelled out an Ann-Marie Heatherson opener to seal the win for The Blues.
This was the second consecutive defeat to one of the country's 'big four' but as on Sunday the newly promoted Lionesses proved they are closing the gap on the top teams very quickly.
Referee Deli Sotimirin was called upon to make a pitch inspection
prior to kick-off due to the torrential downpour - deeming the surface playable.
Lionesses manager
Aidan Boxall started with the same side that was defeated by Arsenal at the weekend in the League Cup.
A well deserved breakthrough for Millwall came two minutes before
the interval when Ann-Marie Heatherson volleyed in from a Lindsey Morgan cross to give The Lionesses the lead.
The game turned with 25 minutes remaining when Ann-Marie Heatherson out-ran the Chelsea defence only to be felled by oncoming
keeper Siobhan Chamberlain who only received a yellow card for the foul which clearly denied Heatherson a goal scoring opportunity.
Leah Jones stepped up to
the mark only to fire her spot-kick wildly over the bar.
Buoyed
by their good fortune, Chelsea started their comeback when the home side reacted with a goal of their own in the 68th minute. From a quick free-kick Casey Stoney crossed for Stef Curtis to flick on to Claire Rafferty who drilled home.
The final 15 minutes saw Chelsea bombard
the Millwall defence. Shots from Lianne Sanderson and Dani Buet went begging as they searched for the goal to give them the lead. A superb fingertip save by Claire Lacey denied Dani Buet from close range and Sinead Boyer somehow cleared the ball with a bicycle kick whilst on the floor during a goalmouth scramble.
A
contentious decision by ref Sotimirin with only minutes to go gave Chelsea a free-kick for an alleged handball by Dionne Lennon. Buet whipped the free-kick towards the six yard box and although Lacey got a hand to it Dunia Susi was able to tap in unmarked at the far post.
The game was firmly put out of The Lionesses' reach when Lianne Sanderson smashed in a low free-kick
from the edge of the box to make it 3-1 deep into injury time.
