Millwall Lionesses 0 Birmingham LFC 0
Millwall Lionesses dropped their first home points in the Tesco FA Women's Premier League after drawing 0-0 with Midlands side Birmingham LFC at Beckenham Town's Eden Park Avenue ground on Sunday.
Injuries to Meghan McKeag and Leah Jones caused manager Aidan Boxall to make changes to his side, with Harley Bennett coming into the squad and Ellie Stenning starting a second game in succession.
Emma Beckett in midfield for The Lionesses combined well with Ann-Marie Heatherson who unleashed a shot from the edge of the box that flew over the bar.
Charlotte Gurr fired a free-kick straight at visiting keeper Sue Wood after a Sian Larkin foul on Heatherson.
Claire Lacey in the home goal then saved comfortably from Jo Potter and punched a Dannii Bird cross clear.
Stenning suffered a serious injury after 25 minutes when she collided with Sian Larkin and had to be helped from the field by physio Charlene McKinnon. Harley Bennett stepped into the fray after a reshuffle by manager Boxall.
The closest The Lionesses came to breaking the deadlock was when Leanne Champ rounded her marker to float a cross into the box for the incoming Heatherson to power a header just inches wide of the upright.
Leanne Champ received a booking just before the end of the half after a foul on Mikaela Howell before Jo Potter thundered the resulting free kick from 25 yards onto the Millwall crossbar.
The second period saw The Blues replace Mikaela Howell and Kerry Bartlett with Maz Gauntlett and Danni Saulter as they tried to break down the lioness defence.
Heatherson and Charlotte Gurr linked up well twice but were thwarted by fine saves from Wood.
Player of the match Sinead Boyer showed why The Lionesses are yet to concede a goal on home soil when she made a last ditch tackle on Bird to deny the Birmingham forward a sure strike on goal.
Both teams created efforts in the dying seconds with Heatherson firing wide and Bird shooting over after breaching The Lionesses defence. As the final whistle blew a share of the spoils was a fair result.
The Lionesses are back in league action on Sunday when they host Doncaster Rovers Belles. The previous encounter between the two sides last December saw Millwall beat the Belles 1-0 in an FA Cup fourth round tie
