Striker
Born: Southwark 14th Feb 1946
Debut: Vs Blackburn Rovers 19th August 1967

Derek Possee was signed by Benny Fenton in August 1967 for £25,000, a
club recor d at the time. He joined Millwall to resume a striking partnership
and player understanding that he had developed with
Keith Weller in Tottenham Reserves. The signing of
another forward allowed Weller to play midfield-cum-
forward, often utilising Possee's speed to unlock
opposing defences in those days of ultra-defensive
tactics. Possee contributed more than his share to the
most exciting and talented Millwall side for years. He
missed only a handful of games during his five and a half
seasons at The Den and broke Jack Cock's long
 -standing Football League aggregate goalscoring
record with the two goals he scored in his last League appearance for
the Lions, on 30th December 1972.

Although on the small side for an out-and-out striker, Possee had a
tremendous first touch and burst of speed and could out
jump taller defenders. He won the Golden Goal Trophy
for his 'goal of the season' against Birmingham City in
November 1971. In January 1973, Possee joined First
Division Crystal Palace, and after two seasons at
Selhurst Park, signed for Leyton Orient for £60,000
during the summer of 1974. He stayed for three seasons
before joining Vancouver Whitecaps in the NASL. He
stayed in Vancouver, where he now lives and has worked for the past 20
  years.
