Millwall boss Kenny Jackett refused to get carried away after watching his charges get the new campaign off to a perfect start at Bristol City.
Three goals in an 18 minute spell either side of half-time from Darren Ward, Danny Schofield and Paul Robinson eased The Lions to a comfortable 3-0 win.
"We played very well and it was a good all-round team performance," enthused Kenny, "but we're not getting carried away.
We are new to the division and have to earn the right to play in it, which won't happen in one game.
To a degree we have a settled side, although we have had a couple of injuries, and perhaps that showed.
The sending-off of Carter was harsh. I accept his first booking, but I don't accept the second and it seems very tough if players have to miss games for that sort of challenge.
Now I want us to take confidence from this performance and move on quickly so that over a period of time we can meet the challenge of playing in the Championship."
Carter was dismissed for an innocuous challenge on Albert Adomah in the 64th minute, having been booked in the first half. He will now miss Tuesday night's game at Wycombe Wanderers.
