O's undone by Lion cubs

Posted on: Mon 26 Apr 2010
Millwall's youngsters scored a goal ineither half from David Adedipe and Luke Mathias to clinch a comfortable 2-0 win against Leyton Orient at Calmont Road.
Scott Fitzgerald's charges got off to a dream start and took the lead after just three minutes.
Defender Luke Mathias played the ball through to striker Aiden O'Brien who's shot on goal was blocked by goalkeeper Jack Giddens. The ball then fell into the path of Adedipe who made no mistake as he slammed the ball past the keeper.
The early stages of the game saw the visitors goal under siege as O'Brien fired inches wide of the upright following a good run and adedipe_articlecross by Connor McLaren, with both Ikenna Ofoche and Grant Ludford seeing efforts on target blocked.
Having weathered this early Millwall storm, The O's played themselves right back into the game and forced a succession of corners.
It took a super save from Lions goalkeeper Jamie Farmer to deny the visiting team a 25th-minute equaliser from Musa Manneh.
At the other end a number of promising moves by The Lions broke down with the last ball in and around the Orient area.
At the opening of the second half Millwall had keeper Farmer to thank again for denying Orient a way back into the game with a string of fine saves.
The woodwork also came to The Lions' rescue when a fierce drive from Harry Beautyman smacked the bar.
By the 70th minute Millwall were back in the ascendancy as a rasping shot by O'Brien thumped against the crossbar and Connor French headed fractionally wide following a run and cross by Ofoche.
French again went close minutes later when he saw his well directed drive expertly saved by goalkeeper Giddens.
In the 80th minute Millwall should have wrapped the game up following good play by French and O'Brien. The final pass found Ofoche in front of goal but his effort was pushed away for a corner.
The Lions finally made the result safe 10 minutes from time in slightly unusual circumstances. Defender Mathias, from some distance out, headed the ball back into the Orient area only to see it take a high bounce which keeper Giddens totally misjudged and the ball sailed over his head and into the back of the Orient net.

Team: Farmer, McLaren, Mathias, Rogers, Beckles, Goodman, Adedipe (French, 51mins), Janneh, Ofoche (Stevenson, 86mins), O'Brien , Ludford (Tefvik, 73mins). Subs not used: Bartlett, Kingsmill.
