Barnet U18s 0 Millwall U18s 1
Millwall's youngsters picke dup a useful awayday win with this hard-fought success at Barnet.
In the opening stages of the game central defender Jake Goodman pushed forward and sent his header from a Jimmy Rogers free-kick just wide.
David Adedipe proved to be a constant threat and found most of his penetrating runs along the right flank halted by stiff challenges that led to a succession of free-kicks that The Lions failed to capitalise on.
Millwall finally got the goal that their perssistence warranted from one of the best moves in the half. Adedipe supplied the ball to overlapping full-back Liam Kingsmill and his low cross was swept home by frontman Aiden O'Brien with aplomb.
Two minutes later Ikenna Ofoche looked odds-on to make it 2-0 following neat interplay involving Adedipe, O'Brien and Jake Gallacher, only for the final ball to find Ofoche in a fractionally offside position.
A speculative 25-yard shot from midfielder Jimmy Rogers whistled wide as Millwall pressed relentlessly for further goals, only for a number of moves to break down with a misplaced pass.
The Lions started brightly after the break and in the 50th minute Adedipe was brought down in the home box as he attempted to get past the last defender.
A second goal here would surely have sewn up the match considering the lack of fire power offered by Barnet.
However it was not to be as Rogers fired the spot kick straight at the keeper, who saved comfortably.
O'Brien almost grabbed his second goal of the day 10 minutes later courtesy of some neat play by Adedipe and Kingsmill, but on this occasion his shot flashed narrowly wide of the upright.
Following this effort, real scoring opportunities for both sides were few and far between as both defences remained resolute.
The only time that goalkeeper Jamie Farmer was seriously threatened during the second period came when a speculative 30-yard drive skimmed the crossbar with 20 minutes remaining.
