With a number of managerial vacancies up for grabs and the domestic football season over, it is inevitable that a hungry sports media, and the bookmakers, will devote time and column inches to slotting likely candidates into various posts.
With Kenny Jackett having left The Den over a fortnight ago, the bookies have had a field day, touting a variety of names as his replacement, but the reality is that it all remains wild speculation.
Chief Executive Andy Ambler explained: "It is true we now have short list of some half a dozen candidates and the interviewing process will begin at the end of this week.
No decision is likely to be made within the next ten days or so, and indeed I would anticipate that we would speak to some candidates more than once before we are ready to make an appointment.
We quite understand that there is media excitement about the vacancy at a time when there is not much going on in the world of football, but our fans can rest assured that we will keep them informed if and when there are any developments through our official media outlets.
They should be wary of jumping to any conclusions based on what they may read or hear elsewhere.
The reality is that the process is just getting underway and at this stage there is no preferred candidate.
