Sawiuk joins at the start of an exciting new era

Millwall Lionesses have named Rebecca Sawiuk as their new manager.

Sawiuk has extensive experience in coaching, player development and recruitment having worked for Crewe Alexandra, Stoke City, Barnet and The Football Association amongst others in an impressive career to date.

The appointment is the latest step in an exciting new era for the Lionesses, whose 2016 Women's Super League campaign begins soon. A recent restructure saw Emilie Perry take over as chairman and with continued backing and support from Millwall Football Club, the 2016 season promises to be a positive one for the Lionesses as they bid to go from strength to strength under new boss Sawiuk.

Sawiuk said: "I would like to thank everyone at the club for working relentlessly over the past month to make this possible. I am delighted to accept this opportunity with Millwall Lionesses.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time within Watford's Academy set-up, and as such it was a difficult decision to leave, but the opportunity to take over as Lionesses manager was one I couldn't pass up.

"I have been really impressed with the club and the new board, and I can see the ambition. I think the changes to the infrastructure and commitment from Millwall will be fundamental in growing the Lionesses and with that the club has a lot of potential.

"I am really looking forward to getting started and excited for the season ahead."

Perry added: "It gives me great pleasure to welcome Rebecca to lead the Lionesses into the next phase of our long-term plan. This is a fantastic opportunity for the club; Rebecca brings a wealth of experience of the women's game and her ambitions for the future match our own. It was important for the board to make the right appointment and we are now looking forward to an exciting season ahead."

The club encourage all Millwall fans to snap up a Lionesses season ticket, which cost just £24 for adults and £10 for U16s and over 60s if purchased within a saver period that ends on Friday 12th February. As an added bonus to supporters, FA Cup and Conti Cup home matches are included in the price, helping to provide even greater value.
